The Importance of Emergency Radio Communications Enhancement Systems (ERCES)

A recent case study by NOTIFIER published on Campus Safety Magazine’s website dives into why businesses should have Emergency Radio Communications Enhancement Systems (ERCES).

When an emergency arises, First Responders rely on radio signals to coordinate life-saving protocols. Buildings can weaken these radio signals that First Responders rely on for two-way communication.

Codes are in place requiring an approved level of radio coverage in a building, which can be achieved by implementing ERCES that enhance the in-building public radio frequency signal coverage. These ERCES are comprised of a Bi-Directional Amplifier (BDA) / Signal Booster and Distributed Antenna System (DAS). Unfortunately, not all key stakeholders know about the code requirements and are unknowingly putting First Responders and building inhabitants at risk when buildings are not properly outfitted with radio frequency coverage.

This case study covers the drivers of poor in-building radio frequency, codes and standards requiring an approved level of radio coverage in buildings, and the impact this issue has on stakeholders.
